Insight

I have spent more than thirty years designing buildings, and more than half of that teaching architecture. Insight is where those two halves meet. It is where I write down the things I often end up talking about at someone’s kitchen table: how building, and buildings, actually work, why old houses look the way they do, what makes a room feel right, and where all of this might be heading.

Why I write
“Think of it as entering the mind of the architect down the road — the one you call before you call anyone else.”

Some of it is practical, for when you are planning. Some of it is simply for the curious. Pick a theme below, or let me hand you something at random.
